Seated Liberty Half Dimes were struck in the United States of America from 1837 through to 1873. The first half dimes were struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 1837 and the New Orleans Mint in 1838 and lacked stars on the obverse. In 1838 a semicircle of 13 stars was added around the obverse border and this basic design was used through to 1859, when a legend replaced the stars on the obverse at that point in time.
