Melbourne Coin Shop actively buys and sells pre-decimal copper and silver coins, including the rare and iconic 1930 Penny and 1923 Halfpenny. We also buy and sell gold sovereigns, half sovereigns, and gold and silver bullion.
Pre-decimal and decimal banknotes are always welcomed, alongside premium Royal Australian Mint and Perth Mint products.

The Founder's Journey
Paul Ratcliffe is the founder of Melbourne Coin Shop. To date, his experience in the numismatic industry spans over a period of 26 years.
1998
Paul’s initial exposure to the coin and banknote industry was in 1998 when he joined Sherwood Commemoratives in a general management role.
2001
When Sherwood Commemoratives merged with Downies Coins in 2001, Paul took up the position of Operations Manager. He later stepped back from Operations in 2006 to become the Rare Coin and Banknote Specialist.
2009
In 2009, Paul was offered the opportunity to take his skills to the next level and joined Coinworks, immersing himself in all aspects of the business, from sales and marketing to exhibitions and coin fairs.
2024
Paul made the decision to take the foundation of his previous venture and expand into a retail environment. Melbourne Coin Shop officially opened its doors in March 2024.
