A number of native Australian plants that flower in December each year have traditionally been seen as heralds of the Christmas season. One of these is the elegant Queensland Christmas orchid – Calanthe triplicata. The design for this beautiful new 50c coin reimagines the Queensland Christmas orchid as an ornate bauble hanging amongst a riot of Art Nouveau floral embellishments. This is further enhanced by the hanging decoration card available in five translucent colours, gilded with gold foil accents.
