The 1969 Proof Set was produced by the Royal Australian Mint and comprises of six coins struck to Proof quality with each denomination celebrating a different aspect of Australia’s wildlife. The 1969 Proof Set was also important in that it was the first Australian Proof Set to be encased in a specially designed hard plastic slab that was sealed by ultrasonic welding, thereby securely encasing the coins and reducing the chance of damage due to exposure to the air and general mishandling. The obverse design was by Arnold Machin, the reverse design by Stuart Devlin. Please note: The coins in this 1969 Proof Set are free from toning. Some of the coins have ‘turned’ in the case, however this is not unusual for this year date. The foam case is original but in used condition.
